PSYCHIATRIST AND MID-LEVEL PROVIDERS

Psychiatrist
The Staff Psychiatrist is responsible for assisting the Staff Physician and the Mental Health Coordinator (MHC) in the management of psychiatric services at the jail so that there is a coordinated and comprehensive service that is integrated with security, medical services and administration.

Qualified candidates must possess a valid license to practice as a physician in the state where employment is being sought at the time of appointment; and evidence of having completed three (3) years of graduate training in psychiatry in a program approved by the American Medical Association or the American Osteopathic Association.  The Psychiatrist should have a minimum of three (3) years previous experience, preferably in a corrections environment, and possess and maintain current CPR certification.

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is responsible for assisting the Physician and the Mental Health Coordinator (MHC) in the management of the mental health services at the jail so that there is a coordinated and comprehensive service that is integrated with security, medical services and administration.  The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner also assists in ensuring that there is nursing coverage for the Mental Health Units (if applicable) and appropriate provision of clinical care. Other responsibilities include providing crisis intervention and discontinuing suicide watch on individuals, as needed.

Qualified candidates must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and hold an advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program.  Candidate must currently be licensed as an RN in the state where employment is being sought and possess current CPR and Medication Certifications.  Experience in providing services to a mentally ill and/or correctional population preferred.
